How Our Acting Classes Work

AMAW Foundations Course 

AMAW Foundations is a 6-week class that meets twice a week: one working class and one lecture/observation class where you observe the work of Master Level students. The course introduces actors to the fundamentals of the AMAW philosophy and our way of working. A major shift takes place during this period – faster and more tangible than any other acting program. It is designed to quickly move you from an actor who “acts” to a person who learns to live truthfully and embody feeling.

Ongoing Class* 

After graduating from the Foundations Course, actors are evaluated by their instructor and placed in one of three Phase Levels for ongoing, month-to-month instruction. At every level you will be challenged to explore story more deeply and discover more of who you are as an actor, creator, and human being.

• Phase 1 – Actors work the fundamentals of the AMAW philosophy; with support from our faculty, they learn to take more risks and raise the level of their commitment to the present moment.
• Phase 2 – Actors expand on the fundamentals; they move even further beyond their comfort zone to take their work to the next level of commitment, instinct and surrender.
• Phase 3 – Actors begin to master the fundamentals and explore the true potential of who they are as human beings through the story. They become empowered as artists and inspired to create from an understanding of infinite possibility.
• Master Class** –  Actors have mastered the fundamentals of the AMAW philosophy; they are producing professional level work in an environment which is provocative, instinctual, community-oriented and “ego-free”.

*Actors will work in class every week. If there is a missed class, the actor is allowed to do a make-up in a class designated for make-ups. No make-ups are allowed in Master Classes. There is no specific timeline for graduation to the next phase level. Every student’s journey is different and the time it takes may vary. Individuals advance according to their accessibility to the AMAW way of working.

**All Master classes are taught by Master Level faculty members. Actors are not guaranteed to work with Anthony. Master classes are available by invite only.

Elective Courses

On-Camera Audition Class 

Taught by one of our faculty of professional actors, this elective class takes the actor through the full process of auditioning on camera. Between acting on video, getting valuable feedback in the moment, and watching your playbacks, you will quickly learn tricks and tools to book the job.

Movement and Dance

AMAW Movement & Dance classes inspire actors to become more confident, instinctive and alive as they move through scene work and life.

Voice Class

AMAW Voice & Embodiment classes access the actor more fully to their authentic, empowered voice and tap into the emotional center of their ability to express fully who they are.

Business of Acting Courses 

Offered as weekend Intensives, day-long intensives and week to week monthly courses, AMAW offers a variety of classes to prepare actors for the industry, connect them with industry professionals and give them the tools to succeed.

Breathwork & Meditation 

These electives offer actors the opportunity to expand their awareness through pranayama, meditation and energy work unleashing creative potential through radical self investigation and connection to community.  

Dialect & Accents 

Taught by dialect professionals, this elective guides the actor to master countless accents believably and authentically. It also aides in accent reduction for actors from other countries wishing to adapt to a standard american accent.

Stand-up Comedy 

Taught by working comedians, AMAW stand up workshops teach the actor how to find their own comedic voice and write a personal stand up routine to perform for an audience.

Voice Overs 

Taught by industry professionals, these classes take the actor through the ins and outs of commercial and animation voice over work. How to get an agent, how to get auditions and how to book the job.

On Camera Technique   

Whether stepping on to set for the first time or honing your techniques for professional work, AMAW On Camera classes walk the actor through the technical ins and outs of working in front of the camera, learning how to bring the magic of truthful, instinctual storytelling to the realities of life on set.
