So many people have been reaching out to me and talking about being overwhelmed with anxiety. On one level I totally understand it because we are facing some major sh*t. Anxiety is our body’s response to stress, but it’s compounded and exacerbated because of technology, social media and the media itself. We are constantly being bombarded with things that we’re not able to process properly.
I believe that we’re a culture of non-authentic feeling. Because if you don’t have to feel your feelings around things that are troubling, disheartening, horrific and maddening, then you can disengage and say it’s somebody else’s problem. That’s why we need to feel our feelings. Anxiety comes from not allowing yourself to feel your feelings. It’s a paralysis state where you just keep getting stuck in your own feedback loop that you can’t get out of. You gotta break that. I encourage you to breathe and then to sit in those feelings. Only once you break that cycle can you turn anxiety into action and start showing up in life and making a difference.
There are so many things going on right now that I’m sure you can find one thing that you can move your anxiousness into activism.
Things you can do to bring down your anxiety levels:
- Mindful breathing on a daily basis
- Write your anxious feelings down
- Take a walk without your phone
- Meditation
