Two quick acting Tips:
- You can not play the character descriptions.
Casting directors have to give a brief description just to give actors a sense of the overall aggregate of a character. That doesn’t mean you play qualities. People have grounding nature of qualities, but it doesn’t mean that a conflict won’t trigger other aspects. We have to trust that the complexity of who we are will be evoked out of a situation. Every scene will evoke different qualities, but you don’t play the character description. Play the scene, play the moment. Just with knowing that in the background that some of those instinctual moments will be triggered by knowing the embodiment of who this person is.
2. Acting can’t be the only thing that frees us – we need to free ourselves.
Acting is this beautiful vehicle in which we can access and leverage our feelings and use it to tell story, have huge epiphanies about ourselves and to share and connect. But this isn’t the only vehicle and you are a feeling being before you act. Life itself is the evocation of feelings and acting isn’t the only place that gives us the permission to feel.
